SMB and Peoria

Posted 2/10/2010 by Casey Huffman

Anyone who knows Turtle Top, knows that we pride ourselves in our partnerships with our distributors and our relationships with our customers.  Recently Tom Gerdes of Southern Bus and Mobility partnered with John Anderson and  Rick Tieken from Greater Peoria Mass Transit District for the recent purchase of new para transit buses for their fleet service.

In Peoria, GPMTD (Greater Peoria Mass Transit District), is known as CItyLink, which features 58 fixed route buses.  Their para transit fleet which is primarily used as a door to door or demand response service is called CityLift.  GPMTD has 133 employees and is managed by First Transit.  First Transit has a General Manager and two Assistant
General Managers on staff and answer to a board of directors made up of five local members.  The CityLift fleet is owned and maintained by GPMTD, but MV Transportation has the contract for drivers, dispatchers and supervisors.

Their current CityLift fleet consists of 28 vehicles and with an increase in demand for service and the possibility of expansion into surrounding communities, they have purchased 31 new vehicles from Turtle Top.  Some of the monies came from ARRA stimulus dollars.  Below is a breakdown of current vehicle use.

Total ridership last month   9902  YTD: 111,796
Total vehicle hours: month:  4590  YTD: 60,069
Passengers per hour: month:  1.79  YTD: 2.35
